Most builders will choose good insulators to reduce heat energy loss. Sadly much of our existing housing stock does not have sufficient insulation which is why the popularity in retrofitting has risen dramatically.
U-values measure how effective a material is an insulator. The lower the U-Value, the less heat loss and the more insulation the material provides. Premium Windows give homeowners the opportunity to retrofit their existing windows with the latest in thermal efficient double glazing units which can be done without changing the existing window frames.
As you can see from the table below, more heat is lost through windows than the same area of wall and is the poorest insulator of all building materials.

There are a very few companies in Ireland who have the skills and resources to correctly upgrade aluminium windows.
How does it work with Premium Windows?
We retrofit the latest in heat retaining lass into your existing Aluminium window frames which reduces the existing u-value of single glazing of 5.8 to a u-value as low at 1.0, giving you an 82% reduction in heat loss. Most double glazed Aluminium windows frames that were fitted prior to 2004 will have a u-value of over 3.2 and Premium Windows replacement windows will still deliver an almost 70% reduction in heat loss.
High Insulating Values
It goes without saying that windows with good insulating values will of course make your home more comfortable, particularly in winter. This is in one part because they allow a lot less heat to pass through and the second part because the inside surface of a better insulated window will be warmer. When you are close to the window your body won’t lose as much heat to the window as it would to a colder surface. That dreaded draft that people feel is not always due to air movement but sometimes because our bodies radiate body heat to the cold window surface.
In addition to improving comfort, windows with high insulation values are less likely to have problems with condensation. Condensation – which is a big problem with older aluminium, occurs when warm, moist indoor air comes into contact with a cold surface, such as a poorly insulated window.

Spacia is the world’s first commercially available vacuum glazing, bringing a new standard of comfort and energy efficiency to older buildings Spacia vacuum glazing consists of an outer frame of low-emissivity glass and an inner frame of clear float glass. Air is extracted to create a vacuum, rather than being filled with inert gas.

Low-E-Plus Anti-Condensation Glass
Many of our customers suffer from prolonged external condensation as a result of inefficient glass panels but we have the ideal product to help banish the problem.
Low-E-Plus Anti-condensation glass is used on the outer pane of the double glazed unit providing a second low-emissivity glass which is designed to delay the onset of external condensation and therefore improve the view through the window. Again, there would be no need to change your original window frames jut simply change the glass.
